EnergyCamp на Вінниччині пропонує шляхи енергетичного розвитку сільських громад
Posted by Ганна Яковенко on July 1st, 2010With the topic “Energy Efficient Village, healthy communities” the upcoming Greencubator EnergyCamp in Severynivka (Vinnytsya region of Ukraine) on July 24-25 brings together leaders of communities and NGOs, entrepreneurs, officials, journalists and bloggers seeking to work together to:
- help rural communities save on energy through energy efficiency programs
- resist the energy degradation of Ukrainian villages
- empower local entrepreneurship and jobs creation in rural areas through renewable energy.
EnergyCamp is the open-air forum on energy, sustainability, renewable energy and energy efficiency, organized in the modern camp and powered exclusively by clean sources: solar energy (electric and thermal), wind generators and wind-driven pumps, biofuels etc.
EnergyCamp brings together experts and innovators, journalists and bloggers, communities and business leaders, local and national government representatives, business people for an open dialogue about the r opportunities and risks in energy efficiency and new energy technologies for communities, and the role of energy in the society’s present and future.
Clean air and “no ties” dress-code facilitates open conversation, and the use of clean energy produced directly in the camp, practically demonstrate the possibilities and challenges of new energy. Detailed information about EnergyCamp and registration for participants is available here http://greencubator.info/energycamp/
Severynivka, the host village of July’s EnergyCamp, is the home of “Energy Efficient Village” - Ukraine's leading project in rural energy efficiency and renewables use, implemented by Greencubator’s partner - NGO “Podillya Agency for Regional Development” (PARD). In addition to a number of renewables-powered public buildings, PARD will be opening there a Rural Energy Efficiency Consulting Center.
EnergyCamp in organizers’ words
Roman Zinchenko / Network Coordinator at Greencubator
Energy is a painful issue for the Ukrainian villagers. The standard rates for energy eats much greater share of their market basket as compared to cities. The rising energy rates and reduction of state subsidies rates will only increase financial burden on the rural communities, while depreciated, out of repair transmission networks and energy systems threaten the stable energy supply to homes and businesses in villages.
Communities, using the benefits of energy efficiency and renewable energy, will have the number of advantages: they can avoid sliding to depression scenarios, create new jobs and businesses, get new sources of income from local and foreign investment. Greencubator and our partners want to present success stories, successful models of energy efficient development and sustainability strategies for rural communities during EnergyCamp Severynivka.
Oleg Levchenko / executive director at Podillya Agency for Regional Development
European experience in promoting renewable energy is based on cooperation and joint action - what have long been known in Ukraine as “Toloka”. Such a strong cooperative foundation is the key to social and technological innovations, healing the energy sector and communities it serves.
Andrij Zinchenko / head of educational projects at Greencubator
We want to dispel popular illusions that “here comes the state / big investor / nice sponsor / thick pipe - and all the painful problems of energy supply are instantly solved”.
One of our key objectives for EnergyCamp "Energy Efficient Village" - to show that the joint action and partnership between communities, business and local government are the basis and prerequisite for energy safety and sustainable development of rural communities.
EnergyCamp from its very start took the “Toloka” model, basing on cooperation of energy innovators, social activists and media, businesses and local government to promote smart energy choices. And we want to scale up this tradition of cooperation and joint action.
Greencubator is inviting energy efficiency and green energy advocates, sector experts, media and bloggers, partners and sponsors to join EnergyCamp and benefit from a wide range of cooperation opportunities it provides:
Social Platform
We are inviting experts and activists in social innovation, energy efficiency and renewable energy to exchange and share international and Ukrainian best practices for energy development of rural communities. EnergyCamp will be the meeting place for like-minded people and will help in getting acquainted with new partners.
Business platform
If you are producing, developing or supplying energy solutions that can be used in rural communities - you are welcome to present them at EnergyCamp. Your business can benefit from the field demonstration of your technology and contact with community leaders. If you are willing to support or sponsor EnergyCamp - we are always open to partnerships.
Innovation platform
We invite innovators and inventors of new energy technologies to demonstrate their promising developments at the EnergyCamp, get the honest feedback and probably find interesting contacts / establish partnerships.
Partnership platform
EnergyCamp is a good place to find, discuss, and initiate partnership projects, including Public-Private Partnerships - so we invite community representatives, NGOs, businesses, representatives of science and government institutions to share experiences and discuss cooperation.
Media Platform
For journalists and bloggers interested in renewable energy and energy efficiency, EnergyCamp provides an opportunity to see and experience the sources of clean energy live (and connect their laptop or mobile) and meet in person those driving energy changes in business and society.
