€50,000 for the development of climate innovations. Applications are now open for the grant project from the EBRD and the EU

Greencubator has launched a new round of the grant project Climate Innovation Vouchers. Companies can receive grants of up to €50,000 from the EBRD and the EU for the development and implementation of “green” technologies. The application deadline is February 14, 2025.

The Climate Innovation Vouchers is one of the largest grant projects in Ukraine for innovators in green and climate-friendly technologies, and a winner of the UEPA Award from the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine for contributions to the development of entrepreneurship.

The project supports Ukrainian small and medium-sized businesses that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve energy efficiency and prevent climate change. Grants of up to  €50,000 cover 75% of the costs of the requested services.

Who Can Receive the Grant?

The grant competition is open to companies that meet all the following criteria:

  1. Represent small or medium-sized businesses,
  2. Are fully privately owned,
  3. Operate in the field of climate-friendly technologies,
  4. Have been registered in Ukraine for over a year,
  5. Are ready to co-finance at least 25% of the grant amount.

Individual entrepreneurs (IEs), NGOs, and municipal enterprises are not eligible to participate in the project.

Companies can use the voucher to develop and implement “green” innovations at various stages of their operations. It is important to note that the grant primarily covers service-related expenses, such as:

  • Intellectual property protection,
  • Industrial design of prototypes,
  • Product certification,
  • Design of production facilities.

Equipment purchase costs must not exceed 20% of the grant amount.

How does the CIV grant scheme work?

The Climate Innovation Vouchers (CIV) scheme is part of the EBRD’s Finance and Technology Transfer Centre for Climate Change (FINTECC) programme, which is supported by the EU through the EU4CLIMATE initiative. The Ukrainian NGO Greencubator has been successfully implementing the project in Ukraine since its launch in 2017.

After a successful implementation of the first phase of the project, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Union launched the second phase of the Climate Innovation Vouchers programme in 2021 with a grant fund of €1.5 million.

In 2024, the project was honored with the Ukrainian Enterprise Promotion Awards by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine for its support of Ukrainian entrepreneurship. Additionally, it received a “Special Mention” at the European level from the European Enterprise Promotion Awards in the category “Supporting the Sustainable Transition.”

The CIV scheme has contributed to the creation of some core technologies at the heart of many Ukrainian green innovations. The project has already supported 54 companies, including Guinness record-winning e-bikes Delfast; operators of e-mobility solutions TOKA, GO TO-U, a producer of eco-friendly packaging on an industrial scale S.Lab; Frendt — solutions for precision agriculture; Releaf Paper — producer of paper from fallen leaves, and others.
